Style Tips Tuesday; Makeup Tips for Beginners

makeup for beginners
We've all been there, whether it was at 13 years old or 20, the day came when we decided...it was time to wear makeup. Probably one of the most scariest times of a woman's (or man's) life but we somehow overcame it, as we put on our "faces" everyday as if we were pro's.  If you're like me, then you started your journey on the "beauty train" a little late, trying to grasp everything you could as you went along.  So for those of you who have missed a few steps along the way or just need a refresher course, here are some helps tips on makeup for beginners!

Moisture
When exploring your complexion, you will understand what type of skin you have, ex: oily, dry, combination.  Knowing your skin type guides you on the moisturizer needed, and the effects that some makeup may have on you.

Primer
Picking a good primer ensures your makeup lasts and stays looking fresh throughout the day.

Knowing Your Complexion = The RIGHT Foundation
Think about what you want to hide, and what shade of skin you are when it comes to your complexion, this is crucial in choosing the right foundation. Neglecting the responsibility of researching your complexion may result in using a shade too light or too dark.   You might have to experiment a few times before getting one you are comfortable in.  Suggestion: Go to the mall kiosk or your local makeup store (ex.Sephora) and have them match you to the perfect shade.  Write down the color number and name so you will always have it when you run out or compare to different brands.

DON'T FORGET YOUR NECK!
When applying your foundation never forget your neck! It is important to blend to give a natural look which means blending the tones from your face to your neck.

Contouring and Bronzing:
These are great techniques for giving your face that extra glow, but only use a little.  As they say a little goes a long way.  Just a bit on your nose, forehead, and around the cheek bone will give you a glow to die for.

Blush
A great product that completes the look. Experiment to find your favorite shade, I personally like golden orange, it matches my skin tone perfectly!

Eyeshadow
This is all about personal preference.  If you prefer the natural look go with nudes, browns, pastels, earth tones, etc.  If you love a pop of color make sure to blend well to create an even look.

Finishing Powder is a Good Idea!
Just do it, you'll thank me later, especially with oil control.

Other Things to Consider:
Do you prefer powder or liquid foundation? (or powder vs. cream eyeshadow, etc.)
Whether to use mascara or eyeliner?
Lipstick vs. Lipgloss?
Whether to use lipliner with lipstick?
Should I use shimmer products?
Shiny or matte?
Eyebrow makeup?

Love Culture GONE: Store Files For CH.11 Bankruptcy!

If you have walked by Love Culture in the St. Louis Galleria, you may have noticed the once pre-teen filled store is becoming more and more deserted.  Well this is because they are the latest clothing business that has went out of business, even filing CH. 11 Bankruptcy.

From my own personal research there aren't much details on the bankruptcy except that they won a claim against the unsecured debt association to hold an expedited sale to get rid of what they could, but not much more is provided.  I even attempted to talk to a store employee but obviously, no one was there.

As of right now you are still able to purchase items from their website (http://www.loveculture.com/) so my educated guess is they will operate solely online like such stores including A'gaci (http://www.agacistore.com/)

Me personally I can't shop there, my body type doesn't fit their image.  Let's be honest I'm a thick girl, in all the right places and some wrong places.  Their large sizes fit to be a sh-medium.  I can only fit their over-sized cardigans and jewelry, which sucks because their jewelry breaks before you even open the package, not to mention it's final sale (no bueno).

So all in all, I am not sad to see Love Culture go, what about you, do you like shopping at Love Culture and if so why?

MIS-Move In Silence (The Take Over Has Begun)

As you all know I am a T-Shirt junkie, and love unique and swagged out graphic tees, so I am definitely excited to showcase MIS-Move In Silence.  If you remember my post about Graphic Part II (http://mindofafashionista.blogspot.com/2014/09/graphic-part-ii.html) then you're familiar with this clothing brand.  I was able to connect with Matthew Rivers, owner of MIS and get all of the details of what MIS is about:
"We want people to feel comfortable and confident in our clothes.  To Move In Silence or M.I.S means to walk into a room and own it.  Nothing needs to be said.  Experience the feeling of opulence in Move In Silence. You might not be the most confident at heart but when you put on a piece of our clothing, KNOW that you are walking into a world of endless possibilities.  Our main focus is making sure our designs STAND OUT which is why we print with hologram, glow in the dark, reflective and bright colored dye-sublimated shirts.  We also emphasize to our customers, quality clothing.  Since we are starting to transition from just making Tee-shirts and long sleeves, into the more cut and sewn arena, we are dedicated into testing our fabrics and ensuring that everything we use is of the highest quality.  Too many companies use cheap material and it shows in the presentation and looks terrible, after it is laundered.  We have tested all our clothing thoroughly, to ensure our customers satisfaction.  We utilize 100% combed cotton, 100% polyester from the best manufacturers world wide.  Our MAIN collections are the signature Hush Collection, Amber Collection, Outlaw Collection, Move in Stars, Bottle Collection and Location Collection.  Each of these collections are entirely different in their own right." (Matthew Rivers)

As of right now there are 6 collections under MIS:

Hush Collection:
"The Hush collection is what started all of M.I.S.  This is the main theme behind the brand.  Most of the products we have done in the hushed collection use our logo with the outline of the jaw line, hands and lips. Products range from Tanks, Tee shirts, Hooded Sweatshirts, Crew Necks, Leggings, Socks, etc..."

Amber Collection:
"Dedicated to Amber Moss who is the female face of M.I.S.  She was supposed to model for us at Graphic and because we already shot someone from an ethnic background, I wanted to have a look that I thought would have commercial appeal so, I reached out to her and the rest was history."

Outlaw Collection:
"This was designed more for the men.  The logo is a M.I.S. however the M.I.S. also show a cowboy hat from the M and the I.S. make up the bandanna which is why we call this the outlaw logo."

Move In Stars:
"This collections shows the different versions of using the American Flag and putting our own spin on it with the use of hologram and the stars spelling out M.I.S."

Bottle Collection:
"This collection is dedicated to the use of a Magnum bottle of Champagne and us implementing our own twist to make it M.I.S."

Leather Collection:
"This entire line will be dedicated to the use of leather."

And just to show the quality of their work, here is a Instagram video for you to check out:

We give MIS 2 thumbs up, I can't wait to rock my tees and you need to go purchase yours so we can rock ours together!  To make a purchase or for more information visit their website:

After Dark Street Wear: STL T-Shirt Collection

If you're like me, then you are a t-shirt "whore" (lol yes I made that up).  You prefer to rock a swagged out graphic tee and turning up the style on your usual comfy outfit.  Well to all of my fabulous readers, especially who are in the STL area, I have news of a new t-shirt collection based out of St. Louis called "After Dark Street Wear".  After Dark Street Wear is brought to us by Juanita Matthews, designer of ADSW, who is passionate about fashion, also a supporter of local music, entertainment, and cultural events and believes when we put on clothes that we do more than just cover up bodies.  We instead choose clothes that represent our personalities, our moods, the times we live, our ambitions and our desires, which is what After Dark Street Wear helps you achieve.

After Dark Street Wear "celebrates after hours when your work day is over and the sun has gone down". Currently After Dark Street Wear collection is limited to tees and hats but Juanita plans on adding more clothing the collection.  “The t-shirts are just the start of this collection.”, says Mathews.with plans on producing jackets, shoes and denim in the future. This first collection she says is just a teaser.

After Dark Street Clothing is currently available online only, with plans on shipping the products to boutiques all over the Midwest.  I definitely suggest check out ADSW, and to do so head over to their website now!

5 DIY Beauty Treatments

Time for DIY Saturdays!  Just wanted to share with you all some information brought to me by my good friends at Lucid Public Relations, enjoy!

5 DIY Beauty Treatments
Whether you’re looking to go all-natural or looking to save some cash, going DIY can help you take some much-needed shortcuts to your regular beauty regimen. Check out these beauty treatments you can do yourself in the comfort of your own home!

  1. Invigorating Superfruit Facemask- The Superfruit fad has some truth to it; berries like newly-introduced Camu Camu berry are known to have extraordinary levels of Vitamin C and antioxidants, which powder-form distributor Amazon Origins says, “[the berry] has shown effectiveness in protecting cells against oxidation, inflammation, and UV damage.”

In a bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of Amacari Camu Camu powder, 1 dessert spoon of raw honey, and 1 teaspoon of yogurt. Apply on face, leave on for 15 minutes, and then wash off.

2.       Hair Growth Treatment- Often sold for hundreds, Indian hair is among the shiniest and healthy-looking, leaving women everywhere to seek methods to replicate its look naturally. Best way to do it? Using Indian spices.

Grab fresh curry leaves and coconut oil, boil together until the black residue starts forming, then harvest this residue and apply it to your hair. Using this treatment twice a week can help replenish your hair, help it grow more quickly, and even fight discoloration.

Put a drop of toothpaste into a small cup, then add one teaspoon of baking soda and half a teaspoon water. Thoroughly mix, then brush teeth for two minutes. Repeat this process once a week until you have reached desired results. Once you’ve reached you’re satisfied with your teeth whitening results, limit the whitening treatment to once every month or two.

In a bowl, mix 1 cup of sugar (regular white or brown sugar), 1/2 tsp of your oil of choice (almond, olive and coconut work great), and 1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil. Once mixed, apply generously to feet and scrub.
