Maggy London Illusion Dress

Hey all, just wanted to share a quick update within the fashion world that I receive regarding the "Maggy London Illusion Dress", "At only $148, this little stunner is a must-have statement piece for any closet. The Illusion dress is dramatized with a sheer neckline and cap sleeves trimmed in black. It is sophisticated as it is sexy. A sweetheart bodice lends glamour and allure to the retro-inspired silhouette. The illusion top is delicately gathered, drawing the eye to the décolleté. Fitted throughout the torso, and highlighted with vertical seams, the style is instantly slenderizing."

Here are two celebs we are so familiar with rocking this dress, Brooke Burke and Tori Spelling

The Illusion Dress is currently available for pre-order exclusively at www.maggylondon.com. I would highly suggest picking this up, every girl needs a little black dress, but with more of an "umph" to it and this dress it is!

Designer Review: Mary Quant

mary quant

I haven't done a designer review in a while and I thought it was due time.  The designer that will be discussed in today's post will be Mary Quant who is a British designer born in London.  She is given credit for the creation of the mini skirt and the hot pants, even though she says she didn't invent the mini skirt.  She also became an instrumental figure of the Mod and Youth movements of the 1960's.  Besides clothing, Mary Quant has also ventured into other areas.  Towards the 1980's Quant focused on household goods and make up, including the duvet which she claims to have invented.

Matte Nails

Matte nails? What the heck is matte nails?  Well it is very simple. Matte nails are nails painted with a matte, un-glossed finished nail polish. And it seems to be the new trend right now.  As far as where to get matte nail polish from, it seems that every company has some sort of matte nail polish, either as an actual polish or a top coater.  If you are interested in purchasing matte nail polish I would suggest putting matte nail polish in your Google search engine and many different companies will pop up.  I will actually be purchasing some very shortly and will do my review on which company I think has the best matte nail polish.  If you are more of a DIY kind of girl, here is a helpful tutorial on how to make your own matte nail polish!!!

10 Rules of the Season

So recently I was browsing through ELLE Magazine and came across the "10 Rules of the Season".  After reading through I thought this would be something good to share with all of you because these 10 rules are trends or concepts that we have already taken on or are seeing develop right before our eyes.

Rule 1: Designer Goes DIY
We see a lot of designers incorporating hand made like materials and looks into their collections
Rule 2: Logos Rule!
Kind of self explanatory, but we see more graphics and logos that are being worn.
Rule 3: Plain and Simple
Luxurious Minimalism is trending now.
Rule 4: Step Back into the Future
Stepping back into the classic 80's low heel pointed toed pump.
Rule 5: Surf on Dry Land
Board shorts, floral and tropical prints are in, even if you're not from the land of the surf.
Rule 6: Join the Tribe
Either a hint of tribal print, or an entire silhouette, this trend looks to be a keeper.
Rule 7: Pile it on
Layering of accessories.
Rule 8: Get Gilded
Wearing rose gold tones that complement every complexion.
Rule 9: Opt for Punchy Metallics
Wearing bold hues and high shine finishes are a winning pair
Rule 10: Arch Support
Embracing makeup that emphasizes the eyebrow and brings out the eye.
Even if you can't incorporate all 10 rules into your daily wardrobe, I would say try 1 at least once a week, I know I will!  And for more fashion do's and don'ts of this season check out ELLE Magazine's website:

Valentines Day Edition: All Dolled Up

Want to look stunning for your mate on that special valentines date? I've got just the products for you to help prepare you for the night of your life. Valentines Day is a day to show your deepest affection and gratitude for the one that you love. Of course, their are those people who hate it and believe that you should show your love all 365 days of the year. I'm not here to take in part in that but rather to help you achieve that ravishing, all eyes on me look!

Shimmer
A great way to extenuate your lovable assets is to showcase them by giving them a beautiful glow. Every girl deserves to sparkle and with this shimmer you'll be flawless head to toe. I would recommend the Instant Bronzing Tinted Shimmer Lotion from Victoria's Secret. It costs about $15 and has Shea butter and vitamin E which conditions and infuses the skin. A little goes a long way with this stuff! If you want to make your cleavage stand out be sure to get in between the middle of where your breasts meet and rub outwards creating a heart shaped appearance. You can also use this on your legs (wear heels for the ultimate experience) which gives your legs a sexy and sultry goddess look!

Facial
You'll be awfully close to your lover when it's time for a good night kiss at the door. Want your skin to feel as soft as it did right after a visit to the spa? It's time to give your face a little TLC at home! A great masque to use is Queen Helene Mint Julep. This masque works miracles all while unclogging pores to give your skin a clean polished appearance. It gives your face a rush of tingling, cool, and refreshing effects that help with various skin types. After using this masque it is best to follow up with an ice masque (view my previous post) to freeze your pores and dismiss any breakouts that plan to ruin your big night. Last, this is where the skin softener really comes into play. Rub a pea sized amount of coconut oil on your face and watch it be soaked up by your skin. This is the best way to pamper your skin for dirt cheap and following this routine will assure that your face will be ready for anything that comes its way.

Hair
Having trouble deciding on how you should wear your hair? Always aim for something fun and flirty. I love a high bun! This hair style is so versatile and quick to achieve. You can never go wrong with a bun, its classy and can be worn in different spots. For example, a low loose bun or a high slicked back bun, these are just a few of the many ways you can switch up the "bun". Not feeling the bun? That's fine! How about a foxy curlicious fro? This is simple and styling doesn't require much. It screams I'm a natural woman and proud of it. If you don't want a curly fro you can always incorporate a braid in the front and twist/pin the curls for a more elegant look. Whichever hair style you choose be sure it is something you can definitely be yourself in.

I hope these tips help and inspire you! Remember to mix and match by adding your own flavor to something and most importantly.....have fun! Have a Happy Valentines Day filled with lots of love!

LOVE,

YOHANA :)

February Update!

Hello Beauties!

Happy February! Our January Hair and Wellness challenge is officially over! I'm pleased to say I've seen results like no other. This challenge was a continuation of Decembers challenge and I focused this month mostly on eating healthy. I feel amazing and I've lost 8lbs in the process. My goal wasn't to lose weight but to tone up more and in the process I ended up losing weight. What did I do? Well, I've been paying more attention to what I eat and how it makes me feel. For example, I cut out meat from my diet for a week and felt the most energy compared to a diet that included meat. I realized that what you intake greatly reflects your physical well-being. I'm not saying to totally change your lifestyle completely around to feel more energized or be healthy but everything in moderation is key. I love meat but my conclusion was that every now and then I should take a break from it. My hair challenge inclined me to get a sew-in to protect my hair from the brittle winter we've been having. I plan to keep this in for a month and re-install to wear for another month. I've witnessed great length from my previous protective style sew-ins and wanted to give my hair a break. Length retention can only be achieved through protective styles which basically means leave your hair alone! I hope those who participated in the challenge achieved their goals and continue to do so. The next challenge will be a summer sizzle-free challenge which I will later introduce as it gets closer.

xoxo

Fashion & Style: What to Wear for a Fashion Event

fashion and style

Ever had a fashion event that you just didn't know what outfit to wear?  Well here are some helpful tips to help you put together that right look:
  • Keep it casual
  • Save your money; don't spend too much and blow your money for one outfit, try to get pieces that you would wear again on a daily basis
  • NO BALLET FLATS!; This is the time to invest in some super cute but affordable heels, boots, etc, since you might be sitting for most of the time, even though you are going casual you don't want to go too casual.
  • Designer bag is a must
  • Sophistication is the key
  • Incorporate your personal style!
Also another tip, it's always good to try and attend these events with a friend, since you aren't that well known in the fashion industry, it's good to have someone to talk and whisper to during the event, I have about 3 fashion event buddies myself!

I hope these simple tips have helped you narrow down that fashion event outfit, remember keep it casual, sophisticated, and just keep it you!

Beuaty: OMG Lipstick out of Crayons? Yes it is Possible!

Ok so I think there's something in the air that has me in this DIY mood, I already told you guys this but it is out of control, I have been watching Youtube for the past 3 days, and I came across a video on how to make lipstick out of crayons!!! So since my daughter needs more crayons I think this is a good excuse to go to the store and buy both me and her some so I can try this out, here is the video below so you guys can try it out too!!!

Beauty: DIY Nail Polish Rack

So I don't know what it is but I have been in a very DIY kind of mood lately, and I was looking through my nail polish been thinking how can I organize these a bit more, and then God directed me to watch this very informative and creative video on how to make your own nail polish rack, which I will be doing as soon as I am able to make it to the store, let me know what you think!

Beauty: What's all the hype about OPI?

OPI
I honestly didn't know why O.P.I was so popular so I decided to research
!  I do know that O.P.I is available at major retailers such as Walgreens, Ultra, and even Sephora has had a partnership with O.P.I.  Here are 5 other facts I learned about O.P.I:

  • There 160 active OPI shades at any given time. Colors are retired every year so that new ones can be unveiled.
  • OPI stands for Odontorium Products Inc which means the company made dental equipment.
  • Some of the same materials used in dentistry doubled as materials for acrylic nails. OPI realized there was a different market for their products and created a mix of liquid, powder, and primer that eventually became the OPI Traditional Acrylic System.
  • The company makes 55 million bottles of nail polish a year.
  • One of their most popular shades of all time is called Glitzerland. It’s a sparkly bronze color.

I think I am tempted to try O.P.I, and to be honest I think I have some upstairs but I just didn't realize the brand (I do that sometimes).  But what I want you guys to do is to send me some pics of your O.P.I collection, show off your obsession for it!
