In continuation of recaps for Saint Louis Fashion week, our third night consisted of bones, teeth, fur, and total Voodoo epic-ness. East London design duo Mariana Fantich (Ukraine) and Dominic Young (UK)present Apex Predator | Darwinian Voodoo for the first time in the United States at Projects + Gallery in the Central West End. The duo started collaborating together in 2008 and have since then been known for such work that entails a conceptual approach to the manipulation and juxtaposition of symbolic ready-made materials.
Their work addresses parallels between social evolution and evolution in the natural world: Nature as model or nature as threat. Their latest workDarwinian Voodoocreates art that subverts Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection with the belief system of supernatural ceremonial ritual. The concepts of nature and super-nature are explored in the work. Included in this exhibit is their popular and most talked about Teeth Oxfords, made from dentures and Human Hair Coat, made from extensions.
Their work is beyond fascinating, you just have to see for yourself. So thanks to me, the best person in the world, you can! Check out the pics from the exhibit and tell us what you think!
