Donald Trump...bigoted? Yes. Arrogant? Hell yes, among many other things. I give him the credit for being one of the best businessmen, money wise, but not when it comes to being socially conscious of people around him. We have been talking a bit on our blog and our podcast about social appropriation, and now another instance has occurred, and people aren't having it, specifically NBCUniversal and Macy's.
Donald Trump I guess fell and bumped his old ass head because ever since he's announced he's running for president (God help us all) his mouth has been off the chain. NBCUniversal first cut ties with the self made billionaire after the comment he made regarding Mexican immigrants, stating:
"When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best...They're sending people who have lots of problems, They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists, and some, I assume, are good people."
Yes, you read it right, and this is the guy who wants to run office once Obama leaves (begins to pack clothes for Germany). So from that comment, there has been an enormous amount of backlash from the Hispanic community which in turned led NBC to their decision to cut ties with Donald Trump, including not airing the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageant, partly owned by Donald Trump and will be re-evaluating his role on the Apprentice.
On top of this, it has been reported that Macy's will be cutting ties with Donald Trump as well, pulling all of his merchandise off of the shelves stating that:
“In light of statements made by Donald Trump, which are inconsistent with Macy’s values, we have decided to discontinue our business relationship with Mr. Trump and will phase-out the Trump menswear collection, which has been sold at Macy’s since 2004.”
I just don't get it. Why would he think that he could make any kind of remark like he did and think it would be OK? Because he has money?! As I stated in previous posts, social appropriation is something we need to take a look at, especially in our fashion world. Yes he made those remarks in a presidential debate, but do you want to buy clothing and other merchandise from someone who thinks Hispanics are rapists and killers? If I'm not mistaken white people are too and are the main ones I see on Snapped and Cold Case Files. Once again, social issues about race don't really phase me because I try to look at both sides and I love diversity, so you know when I'm pissed, then there's a serious problem.
